At a thousand bucks a pop, there's no room in the department's budget to buy them for officers."We're still trying to get all of our patrol cars outfitted with dash cams," Willingham said. "So, that's our primary focus, because it was court-mandated.'But just up Highway 169, the Owasso Police Department now has personal recording devices on about 40 patrol officers.
"So far, it's worked very good," Sgt. Nick Boatman, Owasso Police Department Public Information Officer, said. "Everybody seems to be very happy with the results of it."Boatman says more video from more angles is always a good thing, even for an average traffic stop. Owasso officers also have dash cameras installed in their patrol cars. But, Boatman says, sometimes a dash cam isn't going to pick up a suspect's gun hidden in his pants or pocket. But having the personal recording device on as well can provide clear evidence of the gun, and justification for any action the officer must take because of the weapon.

The idea is to capture video from the officer's point of view, for use as evidence against suspects, as well as to help monitor officers' behavior toward the public.The concept is catching on. The cameras have been adopted by big city police departments, such as Cincinnati and Oakland, Calif., as well as dozens of smaller cities, such as Bainbridge Island, Wash., where the Vievu camera was initially tested by Officer Ben Sias.
"The only thing that really was different about doing business is that I'd tell the person that we're being recorded," Sias says. Baca urged to place more cameras in jail.He sees the camera as a kind of insurance policy."In this job we're frequently accused of things we haven't done, or things were kind of embellished, as far as contact," he says. "And the cameras show a pretty unbiased opinion of what actually did happen."That makes the cameras particularly appealing in cities where the police have been accused of misconduct.
In Seattle, for example, the police department is being investigated by the Justice Department after a series of amateur videos showed police officers punching or kicking suspects. Sheriff Lee Baca, appearing Tuesday before the Board of Supervisors to report on what he is doing to prevent unprovoked violence by deputies against inmates in the county jails, was urged to speed up the installation of several hundred additional surveillance cameras.Baca, in uniform, appeared alongside a task force of four jail commanders he assigned to reduce the use of force in the lockups.“It is my intent to reduce force to the barest possible minimum,” to ensure that deputies are “not the provocateurs of force, but responders to need,” Baca said.
The use of force to manage the jail population had been averaging 45 to 50 incidents per month, but in October, there were 17 incidents, and only seven of those were significant, he said.The sheriff was forced to take action based on fallout from the Oct. 3 release of an American Civil Liberties Union report alleging the pervasive use of violence, intimidation and excessive force by deputies against inmates. The allegations were supported in part by eyewitness reports from private citizens volunteering in the jails, including a chaplain.
A former top rookie in the department also charged that his supervisor made him beat a mentally ill inmate at the Twin Towers jail and then tried to cover it up, the Los Angeles Times reported. The FBI is also investigating alleged abuses and corruption.The Times cited confidential internal department reports as evidence that high-ranking deputies were aware of the abuse as far back as two years ago, although Baca claimed those reports were not shared with him.“Before they get up to your command, somebody spikes them?” Supervisor Michael Antonovich asked.

They also wanted the school to lift suspension on five teachers who had supported students.The agitation forced District Collector P.B. Salim, ex-officio chairman, to intervene and direct the principal to switch off cameras.“We installed cameras to check trespassing and to ensure security within the campus,” said Principal Maya George. She told this newspaper that “the cameras were switched off temporarily on directions of the district collector”.
Tension had been brewing in the institution for the last few days as a section of students and teachers had protested against cameras in class rooms, corridors and even toilets.“Majority of the teachers supported our demand and five of them were suspended due to this,” said Nikhil K, a Class XII student.“We are not thieves or goons to be spied on,” he said. “How could they misuse welfare fund without consent of students and parents?”“We feel it is our duty to protest against the punishment imparted to our teachers for supporting our cause,” said another Class XII student Vishnu Datha.

A consolidation of the fast, sports shooter with the high-resolution full-frame camera, the EOS-1D X replaces both the full-frame 1Ds Mark III and the APS-H 1D Mark IV with a single, double-grip full-frame model with fast continuous shooting. The price most closely resembles the 1Ds, though, at $6800.
That opens a big gap between the please-replace-it-already 5D Mark II and the new top of the line. And I suspect that when a 5D Mark III eventually surfaces (probably not until next year), it's going to be a lot more expensive--in part because of a weak dollar and the increased costs associated with the various natural disasters that have plagued production in Asia, and in part because Canon could probably get away with it. Especially if it incorporates some of the whizzy new technology (assuming it all works as advertised, of course) that's in the 1D X.
Where to begin? On the outside, you'll find an updated control layout, with some extra buttons joysticks designed to streamline shooting with the vertical grip. Sony trims its profit forecast by one-quarter
Sony Corp, Japan's largest exporter of consumer electronics, cut its annual profit forecast after a slump in demand led the company to lower its estimate for television sales.
Net income may total 60 billion yen ($772 million) for the year started April 1, the Tokyo-based company said in a statement on Thursday, revising its earlier projection of 80 billion yen. The company also cut its estimate for sales to 7.2 trillion yen for the year, from 7.5 trillion yen predicted two months ago.
Japan's largest exporter of consumer electronics slowed down production of TVs, cameras and Blu-ray discs after the March earthquake crippled its factories and disrupted supplies. Chief Executive Officer Howard Stringer, who has budgeted 14 billion yen this year to pay for the costs of the worst hack attacks on Sony ever, also confronts slowing demand in Europe and the United States.
"The economic slowdown, especially in the US and Europe, is leading to a significant drop in TV prices, worsening the industry's oversupply situation," Kota Ezawa, a Tokyo-based analyst at Citigroup Inc, said before the earnings. A long-serving New Mexico criminal court judge has been arrested on charges that he raped a prostitute who videotaped the encounter and sold it to undercover Albuquerque detectives.Judge Albert "Pat" Murdoch was arrested on Tuesday for charges of criminal sexual penetration and intimidation of a witness.Honest Tea company tests Chicagoans' honesty. He ultimately suppressed the prostitution ring's client list.Murdoch has also made rulings in numerous prostitution and rape cases and Albuquerque Police Department Commander Doug West said there is a "good possibility" that the judge's arrest "has the potential to put all the cases in jeopardy."
The alleged victim in the charges against Murdoch is an Albuquerque woman who said Murdoch contacted her after seeing her advertisement for sexual services online. She said she met with him and he took her to his home where she was paid $200 for sexual favors, according to court documents. The woman told detectives that she went to Murdoch's home eight times, and that he forcibly performed oral sex on her, despite her objections to oral sex. After he did this a first time, she said she hid a video camera in his room and recorded him forcibly doing this to her again amid her protests.
After the woman videotaped the incident, she began to worry about her safety and posed hypothetical situations to Murdoch about what he would do if a woman were to make allegations about him. She said he told her that "he would use the police and his connections to take care of the situation," according to the police affidavit released by the court.

The panel also is expected to include the president of the S.C. Sheriff's Association, an organization currently led by Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner.It is unclear whether Tanner will serve on the commission, as his term as association president ends July 12, said Sgt. Robin McIntosh, Sheriff's Office spokeswoman. Fairfield County Sheriff Herman Young will take over as the group's president, McIntosh said.
State law assigns the commission to examine more than 20 questions related to the use of traffic cameras. Those questions include the constitutionality of mailing speeding tickets to alleged violators, whether the state has enough judges and magistrates to handle the increase in citations and whether the S.C. Department of Public Safety should be the only agency authorized to use the cameras.
